The good and bad of Bonfire Night in Rotherham

BONFIRE Night celebrations went with a bang in Rotherham — but not always for the right reasons.

Thousands headed to Clifton Park for the popular annual bonfire and firework display on Wednesday, with hundreds more at Maltby’s Manor Fields last night.

Police put on extra patrols and had to deal with incidents of youths throwing fireworks, including several in Clifton Park.

They also received reports of fireworks being thrown into cars in Tinsley, with one being set on fire as a result, and a house in Wombwell being burgled while the residents were at a bonfire event.

Meanwhile, Rotherham North LPT said their extra police patrols in Wath, West Melton, Brampton had to deal with no criminal damage and “minimal” anti-social behaviour.

Fire officers urged people to attend an organised display, with Brinsworth’s own celebrations taking place tomorrow night on Brinsworth Playing Fields.

The bonfire will be lit at 6.45pm and the fireworks start at 7pm. Fairground rides will be running from 6pm.
