Arnie takes up new cricket role

ARNIE Sidebottom has been appointed Rotherham Town's new cricketing supremo in a revamp of the club.

The former Yorkshire player, capped by England, will be in charge of all matters from junior to senior level at Clifton Lane as Rotherham strive to produce a conveyor belt of local talent for the first team.

The current first team manager, Sidebottom has overseen another solid season in the Yorkshire League and is delighted with his new role.

"We want to attract good, local lads who can progress right through," he said.

"The club is being completely overhauled. We've a new cricket committee which will hopefully bring in sponsorship and we're going to get the ground up to scratch."

Chairman John Parkin added: "Our aim is to provide the opportunity for young players in Rotherham and district to play cricket and, if good enough, have the chance to go on and play for Yorkshire.

"Arnie is the man for the job and he will provide qualified coaching from junior right through to senior levels."
