Trio hoping to brew up success at Mexborough club

THREE friends are hoping a plans for a micro-brewery on the premises will give a Mexborough club a new lease of life.

Mexborough’s Imperial Club, in Cliff Street, which closed last April, will reopen tomorrow with an in-house brewery after being bought by business partners Frank Hoyland, Gary Sheriff and Eric Butcher.

The trio have been working since October to get the club ready and it will finally be officially opened tomorrow.

Mick Moss, the Yorkshire regional director of Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) will attend the ceremony, while 60s and 70s group Remote will be providing entertainment at 8.30pm.

Frank (44) added: “As part of the opening night we’re launching our first three beers—Imperial Brewery stout, bitter and blonde.

“There are all sorts of different ones planned though, each month there’ll be a seasonal special.

“We’ve already been invited to the Magna, Doncaster and the Barnsley CAMRA beer festivals so we’re doing a special one-off beer for these events.

“A lot of breweries have to be going a few years before they get invites like that.”

Frank credits the festivals’ interest to brewer and business partner Gary, who has won awards for his work at the Wentworth Brewery and White Rose Brewery in Sheffield.
