Thousands turn out for Christmas lights switch on

DRIZZLE did not dampen the spirits of around 7,000 people who gathered in the town centre for the Christmas lights switch on.

X Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels was among those providing entertainment at last night’s event in All Saint’s Square along with Maltby starlet, Saffron, and future superstar Jay Mya.

Rotherham Borough Council's events and promotion manager, Marie Hayes, said: “What a wonderful night.

“Rother FM did a great job on their debut and I can’t thank them enough for making the party go with a bang.

“We welcomed an estimated 7,000 people to the town centre last night and even though the weather wasn't perfect, the rain didn't dampen anybody's spirits.

“There was a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish and the acts who performed, Saffron, Jay Mya, the panto cast, Nicky Lynam's School of Dance and, of course, Lloyd Daniels, were all exceptional.”
