Honoured to be a Rotherham volunteer

THIRTY-seven long-serving volunteers were the toast of the town as Rotherham celebrated the work of its unsung heroes.

The Rotherham Hospice volunteers were presented with certificates for between five and 15 years during Volunteers Week events.

Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice held a thank you and information evening for its volunteers, with 100 people attending to hear chief executive Claire Rintoul pay tribute to their efforts, and a teddy bears’ picnic for children using the hospice, while Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA) had a coffee morning for its dedicated volunteers.

Rotherham United Community Sports Trust teamed up with the National Citizen Service (NCS) for two recruitment days, with a BMX competition at Brampton-Bierlow and a sport, music and skateboarding day at Rawmarsh’s Rosehill Park.

Volunteers from Victim Support were at Rotherham Magistrates Court to mark Volunteers Week with a day of talks about the history of the Justices of the Peace and local crime.

Voluntary Action Rotherham’s Volunteer Centre team visited five golf clubs over five days in the hope of engaging a different target audience in volunteering.
