Rotherham assault victim 'still critical'

A MAN is still critically ill in hospital after an alleged assault in a Rotherham street.

The 26-year-old local man, who was attacked in the street at Orchard Place in the town centre at 5am on Sunday, remains in a critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery.

He is being treated at Sheffield’s Royal Hallamshire Hospital after sustaining serious head injuries.

Two men, a 23-year-old and a 24-year-old, have been arrested by South Yorkshire Police on suspicion of assault.

The investigation is in its very early stages and detectives would like to appeal for any person who witnessed the incident, or has any information relating to it, to contact South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 249 of Sunday 26 August.
