Driver rescued by firefighters

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a driver from his car after a crash on Saturday evening.

Crews from Aston Park and Parkway stations were called to Retford Road, Woodhouse Mill, at 8.20pm.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Earlier, a man in his 50s suffered from the effects of breathing in smoke after a fire at an outbuilding on Hall Close Avenue, Whiston.

A fire service spokeswoman said the incident, at 1.50pm, was accidental.

Crews attended deliberate car fires on Manor Road, Kiveton Park, shortly after 8.30pm on Saturday and at Garden Lane, Ravenfield, at 12.20am on Sunday.

And the cause of a blaze involving a quantity of tyres on Friday night at East Field Lane, Laughton, was still being investigated on Monday morning.
