We’ll cut crime through collaboration, says new anti-violence head

THE NEW head of an anti-violence group said he wanted to build “collaborative” relationships to help cut crime.

Former probation service head Graham Jones (pictured) is the new head of the South Yorkshire Violence Reduction Unit, after predecessor Rachel Staniforth returned to her previous role in public health.

Mr Jones, who was selected for his new role by police and crime commissioner Dr Alan Billings, has 14 years’ experience as a senior manager in the probation service and commissioned treatment and preventative services for violent offenders.

He was already a member of the Violence Reduction Unit Board and said he was a passionate believer in the public health approach to preventing offending.

“I am delighted to take on the role of Head of the Violence Reduction Unit,” he said.

“Finding ‘common purpose’ with partners is crucial to the achievement of shared ambitions and I look forward to building the collaborative relationships that will help reduce violence across South Yorkshire.”

Dr Billings said: “Graham comes with a wealth of experience which he will draw upon as he takes the Violence Reduction Unit forward to keep people away from violence and to turn lives around.”
