Three police officers attacked in "nasty, drink-fuelled" incident

A MAN who assaulted five people including three police officers in a “nasty, drink-fuelled” incident has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Liam York (31), of Lady Oakes Road, East Herringthorpe, admitted seven offences at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on November 22 — four of assaulting a police constable, two of assault and one of breaching a restraining order

York assaulted a woman in October who he was banned from contacting by a restraining order imposed by the court in May.

He also assaulted Gabriel Wolfkin and PCs Kirsty Smith, Leon L’Homme and Lee Whitehouse between October 24 and 25.

York was given a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for two years, and a two-year community order.

He was ordred to pay £50 compensation for each assault and £85 costs.

Magistrates said they had to pass a custodial sentence because it had been a “nasty, drink-fulled incident” and York had a “bad record”.
