Rural crime a “priority” for police with enhanced team

SOUTH Yorkshire Police has launched an online survey and will be hosting roadshow events in a bid to help those hit by the “devastating” impact of rural crime.

The force says it is keen to hear the views of those who live or work in areas affected by wildlife and rural crime to learn how officers can better focus efforts on tackling issues and offenders.

Rural crime officer PC Paul Jameson said the offences can have a “devastating impact on wildlife, farmers and their livelihoods, as well as those living and working in the rural areas of our county".

He added: "It is a priority for South Yorkshire Police, and we’re keen to hear from those who are affected.

“The Rural Crime and Wildlife Team has recently undergone changes to enhance the amount of officers committed to tackling issues, as well as joining forces with the off-road bike team.

“We understand those who commit crime using off-road bikes are often linked to wildlife crime and causing damage to farmers’ fields and animals.

“We are currently conducting a series of roadshow events across South Yorkshire to speak directly to those living and working in rural areas and understand their views.

“We understand not everyone will be able to attend these sessions and we are keen to understand how we can positively tackle these issues alongside our communities.

“I urge you to complete the short survey to help us shape our priorities and understand where our efforts and resources will be best placed to improve your life.

“We are committed to working alongside you, our partners and making a difference.”
