Rotherham Town Centre drug hotspots tackled by police

TOWN centre hotspots where drug abuse is prevalent were targeted by police yesterday (Wednesday) as part of a day of action.

Officers from Rotherham Central Neighbourhood Policing Team patrolled Nelson Street, Walker Lane and adjacent streets on foot and in vehicles as part of Operation Alligator.

The team recovered a crack pipe, interrupted “a number of deals” and gathered “valuable intelligence”, said a spokesperson.

Several people were stopped and searched — where no offences were detected, they were signposted to drugs support services.

The team also identified overgrown areas where drug use and needle littering are problematic, making plans to trim the plants and reduce hiding places.
