Police officer faces sack for misconduct over alleged computer checks "with no legitimate policing purpose"

A SOUTH Yorkshire police officer could be sacked after allegedly breaching regulations by checking computer records with “no legitimate policing purpose”.

PC Nabeel Khan faces a misconduct hearing on Thursday at the force’s Professional Standards Department.

SYP said on its misconduct hearings webpage: “It is alleged that the officer has viewed intelligence and undertaken checks on the South Yorkshire Police computer systems.

“The checks on police systems were undertaken with no legitimate policing purpose and PC Khan failed to disclose his ‘inappropriate associations’.

“These are breaches the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of confidentiality, discreditable conduct, honesty and integrity, orders and instructions and duties and responsibilities.

“The matters set out above are breaches of the Standards which are so serious as to justify dismissal and therefore constitute gross misconduct.”

The hearing on Thursday is not open to the press and public.
