Police issue theft advice after wave of dog-nappings
South Yorkshire Police said it had dealt with 63 cases since last July in which a dog was stolen.
Only yesterday, it was reported that a woman had been approached in Kilnhurst by two men who attempted to steal her pet.

Hide AdSYP said this week: “We know there is a great deal of concern about dog theft, nationally and locally, and we want to reassure you that investigations are ongoing.
“We understand how important dogs are to their families and know the impact this type of crime can have.
"We want to reassure you that we, like other forces across the country, are actively carrying out enquiries linked to dog theft and attempted dog theft.
“Since July 2020, we have recorded 63 investigations in which a dog has been taken.”

Hide AdPolice said to remain vigilant and report any incident, as well as anyone you see acting in a suspicious manner, or any adverts you about dogs for sale “where information appears unusual or limited”.

Other tips include never leaving pets unattended, ensuring they have a collar and ID tag when in a public place, keeping microchips up to date and keeping all documentation up to date.
Owners should train their dog not to go out of sight on walks, beware of strangers showing an interest in dogs and ensure their gardens are secure.
