Persistent offender jailed over coffee theft

A THIEF who stole coffee and fragrances from a supermarket has been jailed for 14 weeks.

Mohammed Alam (41), of Norfolk Street, Rotherham, stole £149 worth of products, including two bottles of fragrance and ten packets of Lavazza coffee, from Asda at Aldwarke Lane on December 27.

Alam, who also stole a packet of Coffee Mate and two bottles of baby milk, admitted the offences at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court last Saturday.

He was already serving a 16-week sentence, suspended for a year, for breaching a non-molestation order three times.

Magistrates jailed Alam because of his bad record and because he was subject to a suspended sentence order.
