Morrisons apologises for 'genuine mistake' over pork products placed under Ramadan greeting

Staff had placed Kings Bacon Jerky beneath a Ramadan celebration sign.

A SUPERMARKET chain has come under fire for displaying “forbidden” pork-based products below a Ramadan celebration sign.

Morrisons, on Stadium Way in Parkgate, had packs of Kings Bacon Jerky yesterday close to the message heralding the Muslim festival.

Muslims are forbidden by the Qu’ran from eating pork.

Ramadan, for which Muslims fast during the hours of daylight, is an important celebration to Muslims as it is said to mark the month the Qu’ran was first revealed to the Prophet Muhammad.

A concerned shopper questioned Morrisons over the move on Twitter yesterday.

She tweeted a photo of the jerky packets and wrote: “Spotted in Morrisons. Really?

“Pork products in your Rotherham store?”

Morrisons confirmed that the product had been removed from the Parkgate store display and confirmed the incident was a genuine mistake.

The spokesperson said: “We apologise for any offence caused.

“This was a human error and the items have now been moved.”
