Man (30) stabbed in Rotherham town centre

POLICE cordoned off a large area of Rotherham town centre after a 30-year-old man was stabbed.

The man needed hospital treatment for "serious stab wounds" after the incident in High Street at about 4.50pm yesterday.

The man remains in hospital in a serious condition this morning, a police spokeswoman said.

Police had cordoned off the top end of the High Street and part of Minster Yard by 5pm. 

"An investigation is now underway and enquiries are ongoing as officers remain at the scene," the spokeswoman added.
