Long delays on M1 last night after concern for man's safety

LONG delays on the M1 were caused by concerns for a man’s safety, police said.

Officers said they had received reports of concern regarding a man on the M1 between junctions 37 and 36 at around 3.30pm yesterday.

The man had reportedly climbed over the railings on the bridge at junction 37.

National Highways Yorkshire confirmed the M1 had been closed in both directions due to the police-led incident, and said commuters had been stuck in around six miles of congestion.

The M1 was reopened fully by around 7.30pm and police said the man had been brought to safety.
