FIREFIGHTERS are still at a biomass plant five days after a blaze broke out among recycled wood in an industrial hopper.

Six pumps tackled the blaze on Saturday (4) at E.ON’s state-of-the-art Blackburn Meadows plant in Tinsley. No-one was injured.

Fire crews have continued to visit the site since and will remain at the scene for days to come.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (SYFR) spokeswoman said today: “Fire crews are still out there. I am told they are going to be there for a few days yet.

“The fire is still ongoing.”

SYFR and Public Health England have said there is no risk to the community as the fire is contained.
