A DRINK-driver caused two motorway collisions last night (Monday) after getting behind the wheel drunk for a second time.

This is what was left of the Vauxhall Astra (pictured) after it was involved in two collisions on the M18 at around 8.45pm.

Police were called to the motorway after the Astra collided with another vehicle and ended up in lane three, stuck against the central reservation.

A South Yorkshire Police Operational Support Unit officer said that some time later another vehicle travelling in lane three didn’t see the Astra, which was sideways on, and collided with it.

“Rather unbelievably there were no serious injuries to anyone involved,” said the officer.

“The worst being a rear seat passenger in this Astra who needed to go to hospital as a precaution.

“The M18 was closed for some time whilst we moved vehicles (or rather what was left of them) and swept up all of the debris.”

The officer said the man behind the wheel of the Astra was “50 per cent over the drink-drive limit.

“The driver already has one conviction for drinking and driving from a few years ago,” said the officer, “It looks like he will soon have another one.”
