Arrests after "assault" in Rotherham town centre

FIVE people have been arrested after a man was attacked in Rotherham town centre.

FIVE people have been arrested after a man was attacked outside a pub in Rotherham town centre.

Police were called to Bridgegate at 4.45pm.

The victim was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

A police spokeswoman said they were called at 4.45pm to investigate reports of an assault.

"One man has been taken to hospital with serious head injuries," she added.

"Five people have been arrested.

"Enquiries are ongoing."

Bridgegate was cordoned off while investigations took place.

A previous report said police had been called to an incident outside The County pub.  A spokesman for Amber Taverns, owners of The County, stated that the while the incident was in Bridgegate, where the County is located, the pub was not directly involved, apart from staff having alerted emergency services to the incident and given first aid to the injured man.
