World Book day celebrated with award-winning author

YOUNGSTERS from three schools marked World Book Day by helping an award-winning author launch his latest work.

Pupils from St Gerard’s and St Mary’s Catholic Primary Schools joined fellow students at St Bede’s and dressed as their favourite book characters or in football kit on Thursday.

Peter Murray, who has won the Stockton Children’s Book Award, the Sheffield Book of the Year and the Bedfordshire Children’s Book of the Year, launched Kruschmeister on the day.

The story is based at the Millers’ former Millmoor ground and follows the adventures of Zak Freeman and his battle with the ghost of a footballer who played 60 years ago.

Youngsters also got the chance to try out their own footballing skills thanks to sessions run by coaches from the club.
