PARISH CHURCH: January 17 was the second of Epiphany and Rev Karen Skidmore, vicar of St Cuthbert’s Herringthorpe, presided at the 9.45am Parish Eucharist with Sunday Club. Dhoe went to St. James Clifton and Rev Abi Thompson to Herringthorpe as part of a Mission Partnership exchange. Evening prayer for Healing was at 6pm. The recent Mothers’ Union meeting began with lunch. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was observed with acts of worship in the different churches, ending with Parish Eucharist and Sunday Club at 9.45am and a United Service at St Cuthbert’s on Sunday 5pm. METHODIST CHURCH: Junior Church on January 17 was led by John Cook. The preacher at the evening service was Rev Jo Archer-Siddwell. There was a meeting of the Craft Group on January 18 afternoon.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE (EVENING GROUP): The speaker for the meeting was Helen Ensor from Sheffield RSPB who gave an illustrated talk on the birds seen in gardens. New president Kate Crampton opened the business meeting by welcoming members including two new members and a visitor. The group is organising a post-Christmas meal at the Sitwell Park Golf Club on February 25. Kate read out the resolutions for the AGM in June, one of which has to be chosen to be put forward. The Chantry Group has a coffee morning on February 18 10am at St Cuthbert’s Church Hall, Bent Lathes Avenue. The competition, a bird ornament, was won by Jenny Jackson, 2nd Jean Overend, 3rd Christine Pardy. The raffle was won by Jean Ross. The next meeting is February 11 7.30pm when the speaker will be Margaret Jackson on the history of Wellgate.
