COMMUNITY RECOGNITION: Residents have been asked to put forward their suggestions for members of the community to be considered to receive awards at the annual community recognition ceremony later this year. Award categories are Child of the Year 0 to 11 years of age, The Allison Award for Achievement for 11 to 25 year olds and the Community Award for the over 25 years of age. The council is also organising a Christmas Best Dressed Shop Window competition, the winner of which will be presented with the trophy at the same time. Mayor Cllr Brian Keith’s reception and awards ceremony on December 12 will take place in the Tithes Lane pavilion. Community awards nominations, which will be judged by an independent committee, can be sent to the clerk at Tickhill Town Council, Mrs Margaret Cannings-Clough, at 24 Vine Road, Tickhill, Doncaster DN11 9EP.

 

FULL HOUSE: Tickhill Town Council is back to its full complement of nine councillors. John Bergin has been co-opted by his fellow councillors. The town council has increased its Tuesday evening meetings from one per month to two. Meetings in the Tithes Lane pavilion now start at 7.30pm. The next meeting will be on October 27 while next month they are on November 10 and 24.

MISSION ACTION PLAN: Churchgoers at St Mary’s Parish Church are completing action planning sheets that will help determine the position of the church, and to help to constructively work towards seeing where God is at work and seeking to follow him. A series of questions is posed on the Mission Action Plan forms and a small group is going to assess the replies and build up a clear picture of the views of parishioners.

 

RETROSEPCTIVE PLANS: Tickhill Town Council has advised DMBC that it is concerned about two planning applications that have been submitted retrospectively after building work has already been completed. One is the submission by town resident Patrick Doran for the refurbishment and building of a two-storey extension at Lindrick Farmhouse that lies in the conservation area. The other retrospective planning application is the building of a car valeting and sales area at the Bawtry Road site that has been submitted by Tickhill Car Sales.

 

HISTORY SOCIETY: Sarah Townsend is guest speaker at the meeting of Tickhill and District History Society on October 15 in the Methodist Schoolroom, Northgate 7.30pm. She will talk about Henry VIII, Victim or Villain?

 

NEW CHAIR: The new chairman of Tickhill Horticultural Society is Richard Green. He was elected unanimously at the AGM and takes over from the late Raymond Hill
