CHURCH SERVICES: The times and locations of Sunday services are – 1st and 2nd Sundays 10am at St Peter’s Church; 3rd and 4th Sundays 10am at St Leonard’s Church; 5th Sundays usually at St Leonard’s unless a change is notified in the newsletter.

 

ST GERARD’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL: Over the next term the children will be learning all about The Year of Mercy which Pope Francis has asked the church to focus on during this Jubilee year. One of the key symbols for the year is The Door of Mercy and the school will have its own Mercy Door and the children and staff will be thinking of practical ways they can show God’s mercy to everyone they meet. Physical activity and healthy lifestyles – this term the school has an opportunity to work in partnership with the Health and Fitness team from St Ann’s Leisure Centre to teach children, along with their parents/carers, about exercise, health and nutrition. The school will be the first one in Rotherham to pilot this scheme. A taster sessions will be held on February 1 3.15-4.15pm. The 10 week programme begins on February 15. Class assemblies for this term – February 18 9.15am Class 3 assembly Year of Mercy; March 2 9.15am Class 1 topic assembly; March 9 9.15am Class 4 topic assembly; April 13 9.15am Class 5 Thornbridge assembly. Golden Stars – Mackenzie Hunt, Tameka Chipunza, Jacob Manton, Tobias Ali. Birthdays – Ruby Smith, James Brailsford. Teaching assistant swap  – for the next few weeks Mrs Ellison will be working at St Bede’s and in return Mrs Hannah Hart will be working here at St Gerard’s School. St Gerard’s Support Fund – the schools asks for a contribution from each family of 60p per week, which can also be paid as £8 per term or £24 per year. Term dates for 2016 – January 4-February 5, February 15-March 24, April 11-May 27, June 6-July 19. Diary dates – February 10 Ash Wednesday, February 17 Class 1 farm visit, February 19 Friends of St Gerard’s Race Night, March 21 start of Holy Week. After school clubs – Monday: football 3.15-4.15pm, health, nutrition and fitness (begins February 15) 3.15-4.30pm; Tuesday: choir 3.15-4.15pm; Wednesday: Reading Circle 3.15-4.15pm; Thursday: Y6 SPaG Club (begins January 21) 3.15-4.15pm.

 

HOLY TRINITY CHURCH, DALTON: Service times – Sunday 9am Mass,  Monday 6pm Mass, Wednesday 6pm choir practise.
