RAWMARSH TOWNSWOMEN’S GUILD: Several visitors and a new member were welcomed to the meeting recently. The speaker was Mike Gildersleve who spoke about The Silver Screen. A few members who are ill have been visited by Carol and the group was sad to hear about the death of former secretary and valued member Mrs Olive Hardy. Members attended the National Quiz held at Chesterfield and the Reading Group met ont Wednesday at Swinton Library. Subs are now due for payment. The Guest Day has been changed from April to May 12. The AGM is planned for March 10 at the High Street Centre 10am.

ST NICOLAS MOTHERS’ UNION: The first meeting of 2016 was held on February 11 at St Nicolas Church and coincided with the Mothers’ Union National Marriage Week (February 7-14). The guest speaker was Mrs Jenny Holland who spoke about Promises. Jean Goodall presented her with a bowl of tulip bulbs. Carol and Phillip Bowen have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary during the past year and at the service on Sunday were presented with small tokens acknowledging their 50 years together. In church there were various wedding items on display. After the service Carol and Phillip had their photograph taken by Iris, the branch photographer. The raffle prize winner this month was Carol Bowen. The next meeting is on March 10 when Mrs Margery Jones will be giving ideas on Flowers for the Home.

 

9TH ROTHERHAM SCOUT GROUP: Beavers have been working on Musician stage one – listening to various types of music, singing favourite pop songs and identifying different musical instruments. Then they made their own shakers with plastic cups joined together with rice inside and used these whilst singing songs. They finished with a discussion about why certain songs are more enjoyable. The cubs were discussing the history of scouting from the beginning to the present day and how it had changed over time. They were awarded their Teamwork Challenge badges. Scouts were working in patrols on their Skills Award and what needs to be done for this. The Family Camp in July has places left in all sections, everyone must be accompanied by an adult and the accomodation is indoors. Anyone interested, discuss next week.

 

WOMEN’S WORLD DAY OF PRAYER: At the Salvation Army on Quarry Street on March 4. There will be two services at 2pm and 7pm.
