GREASBROUGH COMMUNITY HISTORY SOCIETY: The society held its meeting on February 18 in Greasbrough Library. Secretary Graham Hobson ran a slideshow telling the story of the restoration of Glossop Lodge from a ruin into a residence. He introduced John, who restored the building, and Julia, the present owner. The meeting was well attended. GCHS librarian Lol Antcliffe informed the meeting that the society now has over 70 titles for loan. Society secretary Graham Hobson said that the society now has over 15 titles of Power Point illustrated talks themed on old photos of Greasbrough and district and is keen to share the diverse history and heritage of Greasbrough with groups, clubs, schools and the public. The illustrated talks can be presented for a small donation towards society funds. Anyone interested in receiving a talk should contact Graham 01709 551856 or [email protected]. GCHS is finalising plans to end its successful Farming Around Greasbrough exhibition that has been running for three months and to stage a new exhibition in Greasbrough Library. Feedback on the Farming Around Greasbrough exhibition has been positive. It is hoped that the new exhibition will be staged in March. The drop in sessions are proving popular with GCHS members and the public are welcome to attend these sessions. Drop ins are usually held on the first Thursday of the month – see library noticeboard for dates and times. The next general meeting of the society is on March 17 in Greasbrough Library 5pm.
