Singer set for South Yorkshire date

SINGER Lindi Ortega is preparing to bring a taste of Canadian country music to South Yorkshire.

The guitar-plucking songstress brings her UK tour to The Harley in Sheffield next Tuesday after garnering reviews describing her as a “country-fried Amy Winehouse in widow’s robes”.

The young Canadian musician recently released her third album, Tin Star, which was produced by Grammy award-nominated producer Dave Cobb and defies critics who think she is all about “straight country music.”

She said: “I have this drive to prove people wrong.

“It’s always my goal to raise the bar with each record I put out.

“I have witnessed so much talent living in Nashville that has inspired me to push myself even further.

“I like to work with different musicians and producers to change the feel of every release.”

Lindi’s recent bookings include providing backing vocals for Brandon Flowers and supporting hardcore punk band Social Distortion.

Armed with her trademark red boots — which she picked up whilst on the road with Oscar-winning actor Kevin Costner — and red lipstick, she wowed all of their audiences night after night.

Songs on the album touch on the classics of country music — loneliness, unrequited love, crumbling relationships and primal desire, all set against a voice that moves from rocking yelp to bluesy shout, show-boating falsetto and a Parton-esque pure, mountain trill.
