Samaritans host Rotherham awareness event

SAMARITANS volunteers will host a three-hour fitness fest to mark the charity’s annual awareness day.

The Rotherham Samaritans invite Zumba fans to join them for a three-hour class in All Saints’ Square on Saturday, July 27.

Those feeling fit can register from 10am on the day to join the event, which will cost a £5 donation for adults and £2.50 for children.

The volunteers hope to highlight the importance of talking about problems, reminding people that Samaritans are on call 24 hours a day to listen and give support.

Rotherham Sams’ answer more than 11,500 calls for help every year from people who are struggling with a range of issues.

One volunteer said: “People are able contact us at any time of day or night and they don't have to be feeling suicidal to get in touch, which is sometimes the general impression that people have of Samaritans.

“We are there to listen and give emotional support to anyone who is feeling distressed or despairing, for whatever reason.”
