Red, white and blue cupcakes and fish and chips on the menu as schools celebrate coronation in style

SCHOOLS hung out the bunting and tucked into coronation-themed fare as they joined the national celebrations at the new monarch’s crowning.

The Union Flag could be seen proudly displayed on cakes, hats, T-shirts and party dresses at a host of events organised to mark the monarchical milestone of King Charles III being crowned at Westminster Abbey on Saturday.

Schools across the Dearne Valley got into the spirit by encouraging pupils to wear the national colours and around 10,300 kids at tea parties, picnics and “royal banquets” enjoyed themed food, ranging from red, white and blue cup-cakes and traditional British dishes like fish and chips to street party favourites like sandwiches and sausage rolls.
