Preparations underway for 37th Rotherham Show

THE ever popular Rotherham Show makes a welcome return to the town next month.

Back for its 37th year, the event will take place at Clifton Park on Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11.

The show — which usually attracts around 70,000 people — is one of the largest free events in the north of England and will include live music, entertainment, activities, stalls and exhibitors.

There will be a horticultural show, vintage vehicle rally, hamster show, brass bands and a music marquee.

New activities this year will include a cat show, emergency services day and the Proms in the Park event on the Saturday featuring the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra in performance from 7pm to 9pm.

The classical music event is a ticketed part of the show with all of the proceeds going to Titans Foundation and Friends of Rotherham Music.

Tickets cost £20 and are on sale via the Rotherham Theatres box office on 01709 823621.

The main arena will be the venue for the Paws for Thought dog display team, Coventry Corps of Drums and Phoenix Falconry on the Saturday and on Sunday, the Little Nippers terrier racing display team, the Mini Shetland Troup horse display and the Stannage International Stunt Team will be performing.

At the music marquee on Saturday there will be performances from brass bands to solo artistes playing a range of styles and genres. On Sunday there will be live jazz and folk music all day from Kind Pleasure and the Biscuit Boys, James Haigh, Ray Hearne and Dave Formula and the Finks.

Mayor of Rotherham Cllr Lyndsay Pitchley said: “I’m sure this year’s show will be the best yet – so come on down to Clifton Park, come celebrate and enjoy Rotherham at its best and let’s be proud of our town together.”

The Advertiser will also be in attendance at the show and people can pick up an Advertiser "goody bag".
