Northern Ballet ‘hare’ and about in Barnsley

A BALLETIC bunny will hop onto the stage in Barnsley this spring.

OK, it’s actually a hare, but a dance show for children is still out to get tails twitching.

Following the sell-out successes of its previous children’s ballets, Northern Ballet returns to The Civic in April with its new short ballet, Tortoise & The Hare.

A re-imagining of Aesop’s much-loved fable, the Tortoise & the Hare is the latest in the Company's award-winning series of Short Ballets for Small People.

Choreographed by Northern Ballet dancers Dreda Blow and Sebastian Loe, this is the second children’s ballet by the pair who created Ugly Duckling in 2012. Daniel de Andrade, Northern Ballet's Artistic Director of Short Ballets for Small People, said: “These ballets are classic tales beautifully retold through dance and are the perfect introduction to ballet for children and young families.

“It will provide a wonderful opportunity for children and their families to enjoy live performances designed especially for them and will hopefully inspire a new-found love for dance, music and theatre.”

The Tortoise and The Hare is at The Civic on Tuesday 5 April at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.

Tickets are £6 full price £5 concessions. Recommended for ages three and over.
