Music and art showcases students’ talents

CHILDREN have been making a big noise and drawing attention to themselves by showing off their creative talents.

Dozens of artworks by young Rotherham illustrators and painters have been on display at the Picture This exhibition held as part of the annual Children’s Festival.

Meanwhile, Riverside House rang to the sound of the Young Musician Of The Year Awards finals last week, which was won by 17-year-old flautist Lucy Mottram.

The children’s festival — the seventh of its kind held in Rotherham — runs until next week and aims to showcase the musical, artistic and sporting talents of the borough’s younger residents.

Events continued this week with the film and animation show known as The ROSCARS — hosted by TV quiz show star Mark Labbett from The Chase — and the Festival of Sport at Herringthorpe yesterday — look out for pictures in next week’s Advertiser.

The festival comes to a musical climax next Wednesday with Young Voices, a concert at Magna with over 1,000 voices coming together to sing a range of well-known songs from a variety of genres.

Featuring a live orchestra, the event will be compered by X-Factor finalist and South Yorkshire singer Lucy Spraggan.
