Kimberworth Queen Hannah in national pageant semi-finals

AN ASPIRING beauty queen reached the semi-finals of a national pageant at her first attempt.

Hannah Critchlow (11) of Wellfield Road, Kimberworth Park, always dreamed of entering a contest — but mum Rebecca Ramsden (30) had doubts.

Now the Wingfield Academy pupil is poised to win a spot at the live grand final of Little Miss Teen GB, after wowing judges with her pictures.

Rebecca said: “I was always a bit reluctant to let her enter one of these contests.

“I never thought much of them — I thought it was just about hair and makeup — but she has wanted to do it since she was little.

“Since going to high school she has been begging me, so I finally gave in and let her.”

The Grand Final will be held at The Globe, Blackpool in October.

To get there, Hannah must raise money for charity and answer questionnaires to give judges clues about her personality.

The organisers’ chosen charity is Together for Short Lives, which supports children with terminal illnesses.

Rebecca added: “Reading about the contest changed my perceptions of it. The contestants are encouraged to do good — it’s not just about looks.

“I’m really proud of Hannah and she’s over the moon — she can’t believe she’s in the semi-final.”

Hannah said: “I’m really excited. I’m a little nervous because there are loads of pretty girls who have entered the contest, but I’m quite confident.”

She added: “I would like to do some fundraising with school — something to do with sport, or maybe a bake sale.

“But whoever wins, I’m sure they will make a great beauty queen.”
