Festival of brass returns to Whiston

BRASS bands battled it out for glory in a showcase of spectacular sound.

Crowds flocked to Whiston for the village’s annual Festival of Brass, which saw  Chapeltown Silver Prize Band declared the winners.

Pints were supped and musicians milked the applause as prizes were handed out in four classes, including a most entertaining band award in all sections.

The Strata Brass Band won the championship and first section, while local favourite Maltby Miners Welfare Band took the third section prize.

And it wasn’t all about the brass, as members of the Adam Hague School of Dance opened the festival.
