Church hosts two top groups

A LANDMARK church is preparing to play host to two top choral groups in the space of just three days.

The Margaret Duckworth Singers will be accompanied by the All Star Brass Ensemble in the first of the two concerts, which will take place at All Saints Parish Church in Wentworth from 7.30pm on Thursday, June 12.

This will be followed by a visit from the Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir and the Barnburgh Village Singers from 7.30pm on Saturday, June 14.

The Margaret Duckworth Singers were founded 40 years ago as a mixed group whose aim was to raise money for charity and it continues to go from strength-to-strength.

Their musical director — from whom the group takes its name — is well known as a tutor to many professional singers with Opera North and English National Opera.

Margaret Duckworth is also a professional soloist of international reputation in her own right.

The Thurnscoe Harmonic Male Voice Choir was formed in 1924 and is now recognised as one of the premier male voice choirs in the country.

Over the last few years they have won over 100 awards in major competitions.

They will be joined by the Barnburgh Village Singers, a ladies choir founded in 2002 by conductor Julia Bullars.

Organisers of the concerts promise that the music will bring a spring flavour to the iconic neo-gothic church that will be well worth experiencing.

Tickets for the events are priced at £7 and are available from church members prior to the event or on the door prior to the performances.
