CHICO time heralded the start of Christmas time for Rotherham shoppers as X Factor star Chico Slimani switched on the town centre’s festive lights.

The cheeky singer, and star of this year’s Rotherham panto, was joined by X Factor hopefuls Jack Wilding and Sarah Watson for this year’s big switch on in All Saints' Square last night.

“Tonight it’s Rotherham time,” shouted the Welsh-born singer as he flicked the switch to spark the festive light show into life.

Chico’s next challenge will see him take a starring role in Jack and the Bean Stalk.

The show is set to run at the Civic Theatre for five weeks, with 72 performances, starting on December 2.
