Cheers! Acorn real ale brewery's a winter winner

STAFF at a South Yorkshire brewery have been lifting a glass to their success at the Campaign for Real Ale’s National Winter Ales Festival.

Craft brewery Acorn, which began life in 2003 and is now based at Aldham Industrial Estate in Wombwell, added to its previous accolades by scooping bronze for its Gorlovka Imperial Stout in the stouts category at the festival in Manchester.

And this week the award-winning ale is among those featuring in a four-day festival at the brewery’s pub, the Old No 7, Market Hill, Barnsley.

The free-entry festival is being launched at noon today by beer writer Roger Protz and will see Gorlovka line up with more than 20 cask-conditioned ales as well as continental bottled beers, ciders and craft keg beers.

Acorn’s managing director Dave Hughes said: “The year has begun very well for us with this top award for Gorlovka at the National Winter Ales Festival.

“It is a timely win as we prepare to hold our own beer festival to not only showcase our own beers but also feature award winning beers from many other top craft brewers.”
