Cheer squad calls for new members

A CHEERLEADING club is appealing for youngsters who are interested in dance and gymnastics to join the growing team and become its future stars.

The Intensity Cheer and Dance Club was formed in October and meet twice a week at Thrybergh Sports College, but members aged six to 14 years are needed.

Suzanne O’Hara (23), head coach and director of performance, said boys and girls were welcome to join the team.

She added: “The benefits are that it combines a mix of gymnastics, dance and cheerleading and youngsters normally want to try lots of things out, so this brings a lot of sports together.

“It’s also a team sport so new members will develop skills that will help them in later life.

“We are a really close group, despite only forming a few months ago, so strong friendships can also be made.”

The club has a senior team called Fusion, its junior squad is called Envy and the youth team age six to 11 Firefly.

Suzanne, who is also the dance teacher, said: “Our senior team is full with around 20, members, but we are struggling for six to 14-year-olds.

“We currently have eight members in the junior and youth team.”

The club’s first competition is in March and is an important fixture as it is a regional battle in Sheffield.
