Buck’s to add Fizz to charity ball

EUROVISION icons Buck’s Fizz are hoping to add plenty of sparkle to a sold-out Rotherham charity ball tonight.

The 80s pop group, which contains three of its original four members, will top the bill at the Magna event tonight put on by fund-raising couple Darren and Gail Baker, who have raised £300,000 in the past eight years for the Weston Park Cancer Charity.

Phoenix Nights veteran and comedian Dave Spikey is out to provide the laughs, along with Hospital DJ Radio Ivan Brackenbury, while writer and lawyer Steve Smith will act as compere and the musical line-up will be completed by The Bootleggers and Chris Edwards.

Gail said the event, which will see 820 guests descending on the Templeborough science centre, “takes a lot of organising but is more than worthwhile”.

She said this year’s line-up would offer something for everyone, with fire-eaters and acrobats also in action.

And far from resting on her laurels, she admitted: “Next year it will be the tenth year so we’ve got to do something really big. I’ve started thinking about it already.”
