Please come along – there are no auditions!

ONE of South Yorkshire’s oldest amateur theatre groups is looking for new members on and off the stage to join them in making a “fantastic show” happen.

The group called CAOS MTS — formally known as Chapeltown Amateur Operatic Society — will perform the musical Me & My Girl at the Rotherham Civic next April.

They have a long history as they have been entertaining audiences across South Yorkshire since 1924.

Lee Hilton-Brammer (46), the chair of the group, said: “We are a musical theatre group based in North Sheffield and one of the oldest groups in South Yorkshire — next year will be our 99th year.

“We welcome people from all backgrounds.

“We don’t have any auditions, we just want people to come in and be involved.

“It’s a family feel, a friendly feel. Lots of people have their partners and children involved, too.

“The last few years have been really difficult with Covid and we lost members but we always want people to join in and have fun.

“We’ve probably got around 50 people but not all of them play.

“The more people come the better.”

As well as looking for new onstage performers, CAOS is looking for people to get involved backstage such as stage crew, props, wardrobe, as well as front of house, so if anyone wants to join the society as a non-performing member, there is lots of opportunity to be involved.

The society has a £30 membership fee which can be paid weekly or monthly.

If you are interested in finding out more, please call CAOS secretary Julia Hughes on 0114 2848381 or just pop along to the welcome meeting at 7.45pm on Wednesdays at CAOS’s rehearsal venue – 15 Wortley Road, High Green, Sheffield, S35 4LQ — where you will hear about all things Me & My Girl as well as meet the rest of the members.
