AN INTERACTIVE family-friendly history tour with a comic twist will be travelling around principal towns in Barnsley this summer.

Part of a cultural project led by Barnsley Museums, The Un-Naturalists tour, performed by Markmark Productions, is set to showcase the borough's history “in a different way”.

A spokesperson for the production company said: “We've taken the facts, bent them, shaped them any way we want them!

“It’s an Un-Natural history and a comedy experience that is guaranteed to raise a smile and prompt a few questions about the town's fascinating past.”

The free tours will take place in each principal town and will be coming to Goldthorpe on Wednesday, August 16 with two performances – at 11am & 1pm – at The Big Feast event.

Cllr Robert Frost, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “Barnsley’s fascinating history can be experienced in many different ways and in lots of different settings.

“This fun tour will not only have people giggling, but will also offer a wonderful insight into the town's past.

“People from right across the borough can take part and will be enjoyed no matter what their age.

“The tours are part of a wider project that takes cultural experiences out to our towns offering interesting and engaging experiences.”

The tours are free to take part in, however, booking is advisable at www.tinyurl.com/UnNaturalistsTour.

The Un-Naturalists Summer Tour is taking place as part of Barnsley's Cultural Development Fund programme – Barnsley Connects – which supports local artists and brings new cultural experiences to the borough.
