We'll scrap for every point: Redfearn

NEIL Redfearn says that Rotherham United will scrap for every point that’s available — but warns that there has to be an element of realism in the ultra-tough Championship.

Saturday’s game gives the Millers the chance to clamber out of the bottom three but Redfearn says that even if they do, the division will remain unforgiving.

“The two games we let ourselves down in are Derby and Ipswich but in the others we’ve played well and got nothing. Derby and Ipswich are capable of doing that to anyone in this division and we can’t lose sight of that,” he says.

“What we have to do is understand that we’ll come across good sides and catch them on a good day, so if that happens then we have to put it to bed, move on and go for the points in the next games.

“We try and get points out of every game but it’s about being realistic. Look at the nature of the Championship; it’s an unbelievable standard with three sections in the division.

"We’re trying to get ourselves top of that bottom group and then aim to get into the middle one if we can. That would be progression for us but it will take time.

“We’re in a situation where we’re trying to establish ourselves but the way forward at this level is to plan and the build. You can’t just throw money at it, history tells you that the more successful clubs are the ones who plan and have stability at the end of it with a settled side that understands one another.”
