'We can push on' says Ward

DANNY Ward insists there's a nucleus of quality players at the New York Stadium to help the Millers make further progress next season.

The striker came in from Huddersfield in January and despite his progress being interrupted by injury, he returned in time to help the team get over the finish line.

Ward accepts that the longer Rotherham stay in the division, the more they will be able to attract a better quality of player. But he also says that the unbeaten run at the end of the season underlines the existing ability in the squad that Steve Evans has set about re-shaping.

He told the Advertiser: “The team we have now is easily good enough to churn out results and push on. We showed that against the likes of Norwich and even against Reading. They weren't at full throttle but we still needed to turn out and perform how we did.

“It's just a matter of keeping that momentum going and showing that we can put those performances in. We've got to build on this now and make sure we come back in pre-season ready to go.”
