Wath and Wickersley tied at the top

With a hat-trick of wins from their first three games, Wath and Wickersley are joint leaders of the Ben Bailey Homes South Yorkshire Senior Cricket League.

After a first wicket stand of 53 between Humphrey Emery (20) and Will Hale (26) the Hallam innings collapsed to 65 for 5 before being rescued by a determined 31 from Richard Neal.

Daniel Hyner was the pick of the Wath bowlers with 4 for 17 after dismissing both the openers.

In reply Wath's top order soon found themselves in difficulties against the Dan Holmes, reducing them from 47 for 2 to 48 for 6.

However, the imperturbable Andrew Wood led a remarkable recovery with Mark Barlow, adding 68 invaluable runs before Barlow left for 34.

Another wicket fell shortly afterwards but Wood ensured victory with a superb 52 not out. Holmes took 5 for 58 for Hallam.

In a match reduced to 47 overs Wickersley Old Village overcame neighbours Whiston Parish Church at Northfield Lane.

Wickersley got away to a good start with the first wicket putting on 159 from 30 overs as Haider Jahangir (80) and Gareth Davis (65) prospered.

The innings meandered to 207 for 5, but Paul Lund with an unbeaten 37 and Andy Harrison, who was run out for 21 took Wickersley to a competitive 261 for 6. Scott

Jones claimed 3 for 62 from his 15 overs.

In reply, the Wickersley bowling stranglehold never relented and only three Whiston batsmen made it into double figures. Andy Tomlinson led the way with 36 accompanied by Scott Jones with 27. Pete Wilson's unbeaten knock of 46 was unsupported at the other end and the innings petered out at 131 for 8.

Haider Jahangir took an impressive 4 for 23 from his 15 overs and Shahid Hussain claimed 3 for 62.
