Town skipper stays positive

SKIPPER Scott Hibbett believes there is cause for optimism despite a rocky start to the summer for Rotherham Town.

The Clifton Lane outfit go into tomorrow's home date with in-form Cleethorpes still without a point at the foot of the ECB Yorkshire South Premier League.

The struggle hasn’t been unexpected considering the winter upheavals that saw Town lose their entire first team and have to build a new one in less than three months.

But after seeing his side bat through their allocated overs against Sheffield Collegiate last weekend and make their opponents work hard for a winning total of just short of 200, Hibbett senses an increasing belief in the camp.

“Saturday wasn't too bad, it is the first time we have competed properly and it could have been a turning point,” he said. “We dropped two out of three catches and if we'd taken them we would have been well in the game.

“It's all ifs and buts but we're not a million miles away and even though we lost on Saturday, there was a sense of belief in the changing room.

“I'm under no illusions, it has been as hard as I expected considering we had to build a new team from February. We need our big players to start producing more consistently.”
