Times still tough for amateur club

CASH-STRAPPED Dinnington Town say they are still in financial deep water as they try to make ends meet going into the new year.

The club nearly went to the wall last season until local property developer Andy Abbasi answered an SOS call for help, producing vital funds to keep the flood afloat.

Now club president, his support remains vital as Town try to make sure their progress on the field isn't undermined by another money drought off it.

Team manager Steve Toyne said: "Going into 2012, the financial situation here is precarious and if it wasn't for Andy's help then we would really be struggling.

"It's a pity things are precarious off the field because the team is alive. We've brought in half a dozen new players in the last couple of months who are fitting in well and that's showing in the results."

While club officials strive the balance the books, Town continue their recovery near the foot of Northern Counties East League Division One.

Their 1-0 win over high-flying Worksop Parramore at Phoenix Park on Monday made it four points from a possible six over Christmas, lifting them further away from the bottom two.

Dinnington are away to high-flying Pontefract Collieries tomorrow.
