Stadium expansion on hold

PLANS to expand the AESSEAL New York Stadium have been put on hold – until crowds are big enough.

But, says chairman Tony Stewart, the club is in a position to respond quickly should the demand accelerate.

An increase from the current 12,000 capacity to either 16,000 or 20,000 was factored into the original design and rising gates in the Championship last season prompted a feasibility study.

Mr Stewart has always insisted there would have to be regular strains on the capacity in order for the proposals to be viable.

“We need the swell of supporters to justify an expansion,” he told the Advertiser this week. “We've done the preparation and we've got the drawings and all we need to do is touch the button.

“We've got a 12,000 capacity and at the moment we're living within our means.”
