Scott keeps honest approach

ANDY Scott insists honesty remains a key part of his thinking as he tries to plot a way forward for Rotherham United.

He has not shied away from criticising his players, not least after Saturday's laboured showing at Barnet, saying: "I'm here to be a winner and I'm not going to surround myself with people who don't want to be winners."

The long dressing room inquest at Underhill allowed the manager and the players to get a few things off their chest but Scott says he was even happier to tell it how it was four days later when the upped their game against Crewe.

"We are an honest group," he said. "We don't take anything to heart and we try to help each other

"The fact we had a Tuesday game was massive because we didn't have too long to stew on it and were itching to get back out there.

"It is very easy to criticise and say what you're doing wrong when it has gone wrong,\!q but let's just talk about what we're doing right now. Why did we play well? What did we do well? Think about the positives because it is just as important to look at why you've played well when you've done well as to why you've played badly when you've done badly.

"This is an approach some managers don't have but I'm honest with the players. If I'm going to dig them when they've done something wrong, I'm damn well going to give them some praise if they do well."
