ROTHERHAM Rugby Club says the backing of supporters and sponsors has helped alleviate the losses from last week’s postponed Christmas fixture.

Titans’ final match of the year against Hull Ionians at Clifton Lane was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Although the postponement meant that some food and drink ordered in for what is normally a well-attended fixture wasn’t consumed, people still answered an appeal to go along to the clubhouse and help make an afternoon of it.

The club’s commercial director, John Whaling, said: “We are grateful to the fans who did turn up and to the sponsors who still came down and had a drink and a bite to eat.

“We did about half of what we’d do on a normal matchday but that’s a lot more than what we’d do on a normal Saturday when we haven’t got a match. The annoying thing is that two days later the game could have been on.”

The clubhouse is open 7pm-midnight today, 2.30pm to 7pm tomorrow, noon-3pm on Christmas Day and 2pm-midnight on Boxing Day.

Titans' next match in National Two North is away to Blaydon on Saturday, January 7.
