Ronnie continues defender search

MILLERS manager Ronnie Moore's search for a central defender goes on after his midweek check on one potential signing came to nothing.

Set to lose loanee Exodus Geohaghon after the weekend and with Nick Fenton and Ryan Cresswell fighting for fitness, Moore needs to boost his resources and was at the reserves game between Blackburn Rovers and Rochdale to look at experienced defender Andy Butler.

The 27-year-old was at Huddersfield last season and had a loan spell at Blackpool during their push to the Premier League.

According to Moore, he wasn't match fit when he saw him on Tuesday and he is now tracking young Wolves centre-half Danny Batth.

The 20-year-old is an Academy graduate who had a spell at Colchester last season, playing 17 games.

In the meantime, Moore has to decide on his central defensive pairing at Southend United tomorrow.

Geohaghon will play his last game before returning to Peterborough United but his partner could be any one of Cresswell, Fenton or young Luke Ashworth, who deputised against Wycombe last Saturday.

Influential team captain Cresswell pulled out with a back problem less than an hour before kick-off and has not trained all week because he is still sore.

The coaching staff will look at him today before deciding whether he can travel.

Fenton completed an hour for the reserves in midweek and scored a goal but Moore said tomorrow might be too early for him.

If he decides that is indeed the case and Cresswell is not fit enough then he looks set to pick Ashworth once more.

Winger Nicky Law will definitely play after recovering from a knock that forced him off against Wycombe. He took a whack on the foot.

Midfielder Mark Bradley struggled with a dead leg in that game but is expected to be available for selection.

One nailed-on starter tomorrow is central midfielder Mark Randall, in from Arsenal on a three-month loan.

Kick-off is 3pm.
